Situated at a distance of 17 kms from Anantnag, Kokernag is the largest fresh water spring in Kashmir located a height of 2000 meters above sea level. It comprises of a collection of several small springs and together they appear as a claw of a fowl. “Koker” means a cock and “Nag” means a spring and hence the name. The water streams out at the base of a thickly wooded hill from where it spreads into tributaries which resemble the claw of a cock.
Kokernag is known for its beautiful gardens, fresh water springs and its rivers filled with the trout fish. Daksum is situated amidst the magnificence of the Kokernag spring presenting an awesome sight for the tourist to enjoy. Sithan top is known for its beauty and wonderful attractions. Around 37 kilometers from Daksum, it offers an adventurous trip. The spot is emerging for mountaineering, trekking, skiing during winters. Trout hatchery department has constructed pools where trout is reared. Different pools have got trout with different ages and weight.
